Spokane Velodrome

About
The velodrome will be a simplified and modest facility that will provide a safe and accessible space for cyclists of all ages and abilities to train and compete. The velodrome will also host a variety of events, including races, clinics, and camps from local clubs to international competitions.

There is a growing demand for velodromes in the United States. The number of registered cyclists has increased by over 35% in the past five years and there are less than 25 velodromes left in the country. There is only one velodrome in the Northwest region (Redmond, WA) and it is 300 miles away. There is only one indoor velodrome in the U.S. in L.A. that was built for the Olympics. There are only a handful of velodromes in the U.S. that are approved for nationally recognized competition and L.A. is the only velodrome approved for World competition. Track cycling has been featured in every modern Olympic Games except 1912.

The velodrome will be located in an area that is easily accessible but does not cause traffic problems for the neighborhood. It will be open to anyone who wants to take a class to learn how to ride the velodrome safely. Perks are available for those who wish to invest in Spokane's future.

Aside from daily training and multiple race days per week, we will have court sports like pickleball and tennis, community events, movie nights, concerts, roller skating, and fun activities for Spokane families of all ages.

The proposed velodrome track will be 250 meters as measured at the black line with 35-40 degree banking. The entire project would include the velodrome track and facilities such as the access tunnel, locker rooms, a small office building, an officials podium, and seating for 500+. The building will house playing fields for other sports and a running/walking track plus a cafe. The track will be constructed out of aluminum. Aluminum will cost significantly less than concrete or wood.

The Spokane Velodrome would be similar in scope to the Tucson velodrome in Tucson, AZ. The Tucson velodrome will be 250 meters with 40 degree banking and has been designed by Peter Junek.

The track will be covered by an inflatable dome. Inflatable buildings cost 1/3 as much as traditional building and can be fully functional in 8-12 weeks. The air-supported dome will typically cost $1-$2 Million, and includes the heating and cooling system, LED Lights, doors, engineering, and shipping to the site.
